Fools Make The Rules EP

We're assembling a stopgap EP to get things going promotionally for the next full-length record. It'll be called Fools Make The Rules and have the titular song, "Miss Me Baby", band versions of "Phone Went Dead" and "Searching Drifter", and a long instrumental called "Fix Your Airport". It'll be out Jan 1. We're playing a show at the Retired Records house in Hamilton on Jan 6, opening for the Happy Endings (Ian Blurton's new band). Thanks to Mark for hooking that one up. Stoked.

News

Hey ya folks. We will be doing stacks and stacks of recording over the Winter Break, but again, my newfound patience has pushed the release date back. We won't have an LP out this year. It will be out in late Feb or early March, just in time to make it the soundtrack to your spring AND summer. In the meantime, we will be stockpiling songs so that only the best are put out. Still trying to figure out whether it'll be called Yawns Beyond or Dancing Days.

No shows coming up but something might pop up, maybe a New Year's Eve gig or whatever. Who knows. If not, we got stuff coming in the new year. For the rest of 2011 I will be focusing on the Sleep For The Nightlife stuff, with an eye toward maybe also finally completing the GIANTS record.

And, last but not least, like every December, you can download our Christmas song here: http://thebigcitynightsband.bandcamp.com/album/be-mine-this-xmas

Day Divisions

Just assembled a new EP called Day Divisions.

01. Sailing To Denver
02. Phone Went Dead
03. Ferris Wheel

It's trio of extremely lo-fi dirges recorded on a particularly ramshackle set-up. That muddled guitar lick at the very end of "Ferris Wheel" is lifted from "Happy When It Rains" by The Jesus and Mary Chain. Given the song's clipping nature, I feel it was an OK choice. Sonically and lyrically they all seem to play in the same field, so here she is: http://soundcloud.com/bicycle-man/sets/day-divisions-1

Indie Radio

I must have missed this. Here's an old podcast from the indie machine that includes our song "Lost Polaroids" from Gimme Gardens: http://www.theindiemachine.com/2011/08/01/setlist-2011-07-31-indie-love-radio/

Yawns Beyond

Haven't done much recording since I last checked in, but things will be happening soon. The snowball is tottering at the top of the mountain. Yes, indeed. I've been really busy with school and Sudbury '96 and working weekends at the damn grocery store, but I have kept my backburner baby The Big City Nights in mind. Soooooo the next record isn't called Dancing Days anymore, though I'll keep that one in mind for the future. The thing's gonna be called Yawns Beyond. I've been finalizing lyrics and such and we should begin recording the other half of the record (for you see, it's half done) after Nov 12th, which is the screening date for Sudbury '96. Here's the event page: https://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=164243430328613
In other news my other band GIANTS is playing Einstein's tomorrow night, or tonight, I guess. Event page is here: https://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=247571925292835 GIANTS have also finally got around to recording drum tracks for our debut EP Bob Marley Was A Hate Monger so that should be out by the end of the year. 6 songs on there.
We have a show on my birthday this year. That's the first time that's ever happened (that I can remember). We're playing my old hometown haunt - Tracks in Brampton. Yes indeed. You should come. Between now and then I expect to plow through some of the new songs, though I highly doubt the new record will be ready for the show.

Fall is here. Don't let your heart sink.
