Happy Labour Day
He used the American spelling, but this peice articulates some of the vague suspicions I've had for a few years now but haven't been able to articulate because I was too busy working: http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-last-labor-day/2011/09/04/gIQA11Ob2J_story.html
Played a decent show at the Dollar last Saturday. Good job boys.
I am situated in a new place where creativity seems to bounce off the walls. I'm working on a mixtape at the moment, a mixtape in the hip hop sense of the format - a bunch of songs, song ideas, instrumentals, covers, and remixes that will precede the next major release, Dancing Days. I think it will work both as a stopgap release to satisfy the roar of my clamouring fans - or, more accurately, the roar rising at me from the void telling me to make things, songs chief among them. There are ten songs finished for this tape, and there will be more to come. In all likelihood this mixtape will be finished before the Hosehead release, so look out for it. When it's done, you'll be the first to know. Or I guess I'll be the first to know because I decide when it's done. I think it'll be called Roll From The Hole That Holds You.
This is also happening in a few weeks: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=246057538763688
Coolio?
Bat the bruise, choose yer move.

Some new shows and a compilation
I've added a few shows to the shows section but I'll post them here too because, really, why not?
September 1st @ Clinton's, Toronto (solo show)
September 3rd @ Silver Dollar, Toronto
September 6 @ Plan B Cafe, Toronto (solo show)
September 11th @ Sneaky Dee's, Toronto
Recording is still slated to begin in September. Still working out what songs we want to do, but the stockpile is growing. As ever, my idea of this record as a lean, 12-track affair has ballooned into one of our typical eighteen-songers, but I will do my best to be vigilant and self-edit. As ever, I want this to be our best record yet. Patience, my puppies. Particularly those of you in Palgrave, ON.
In other news, a song that will appear on the new record, Mini Mansions , will appear on an upcoming Retired Records compilation. Retired Records is a label run by some guys I know in Hamilton. I am happy that they thought of us.
Lose yer blues, that's the news.

A shit-ton of hyperlinks means lots of news!
Two songs are finished for the next record but they've been finished for over a month. We haven't done anything else recording-wise since then, but we did demo a 16-minute song a few weeks ago. The next record is still called Dancing Days but recording won't begin for a little while yet because I've been way too absorbed in the production of a feature-length film, Sudbury '96, which features acting from both Ryan and myself, as well as a spoken-word cameo from James. It's going to be a mix between F.U.B.A.R. and Hardcore Logo with just a dash and a pinch of originality.
In other news my main band Sleep For The Nightlife have finished tracking our second EP, our follow-up to 2009's Human People, and mixing has begun. It's tentatively titled Minimalist Cities and it should be out in the fall.
In more news I've been playing bass in my friends Brent and Spencers' Fidelity Friends and should be playing a CD release show for their record sometime this year.
In more news we will be filming two or three videos next month for new and old songs of ours. I'm hoping to give "Come Back 2 Me" and "Memory Motel" the HD video treatment, and maybe something for "That Evil Beat" if there's time. All with a summer vibe - the only vibe worth having.
In even more news I've been writing a lot of stuff lately and I'm fairly certain we will get another two records out by years end.
In even more news I'll be playing a solo electric show @ The Elmocambo next Wednesday Aug 10 with my friend Jared Both's (ex-Barn Owl) new band and The Elwins (with whom we've recently played).
